Research-Backed, Happiness-Forward

Our mission is to help well-being through writing and journaling.

Meet the Founder

"I found myself out of sorts, a daily feeling of 'meh.' On paper, everything seemed fine but I couldn't get out of my rut. Then, I discovered positive psychology and learned how I could take back control."

It was the fall of 2020 and I was not well.

It was a perfect storm - the pandemic, remote work, burn-out, empty nesting, phone addiction, a couple of injuries that made my normal course of therapy (aka running) unattainable. Adam Grant described it perfectly when he wrote a New York Times article the following year about an emotional state he termed languishing:

“Languishing is a sense of stagnation and emptiness. It feels as if you’re muddling through your days, looking at your life through a foggy windshield. And it might be the dominant emotion [of the year].”

I wasn’t exactly depressed, but I certainly wasn’t myself. I had a bad case of the “mehs.”

I was languishing.

Enter Positive Psychology

Searching for resources, I started reading about positive psychology and eventually enrolled in a year-long Applied Positive Psychology program at the University of Pennsylvania. My inner geek was in heaven! I discovered an entire field of scientific research devoted to well-being.  I learned that feeling 'blah' wasn’t just an individual struggle, but a shared human experience that can be transformed through positive interventions.

But, more importantly, I also felt a personal shift as I began to apply theory to practice. Since humans are wired to have a negativity bias, taking regular, consistent, and intentional actions became essential. I began organizing my day around well-being and happiness, instead of productivity.

In a full-circle moment, I also rediscovered my love for journaling, which had been a touchstone ritual since childhood but had fallen by the wayside as I was juggling kids and work, believing I couldn't justify a few moments each day for myself. In this age of technology and 24/7 phone usage, returning to pen and paper became a blessing and game-changer for my mental health.

Fast forward. Our promise to you.

Today, I'm happy to report that I'm...happy! Not in a toxic positivity way, but in that I feel a renewed sense of optimism, abundance, and resilience.

I founded Psych Paper Press as a platform to help others like you on their journey from languishing to flourishing. Our writing tools, resources, and approach are grounded in foundational positive psychology principles and the known benefits of writing by hand, including:

  • Using mindful reflection through writing to develop personal resilience
  • Finding and engaging in activities that put you in a state of "flow"
  • Cultivating positive emotions to enhance overall well-being
  • Setting and tracking meaningful goals that align with your values
  • Recognizing and celebrating small wins and progress along the way

Our promise, born from a personal journey, is that every page of our high-quality products translates these research-backed insights into practical daily tools. We believe in the power of putting pen to paper – not just as a ritual, but as a scientifically-supported pathway to greater purpose, connection, and joy.
